Content field types are intermediary data types that can be used in building Content Types. A single Content Field, and thus a single Content Field type represents a single chunk of information, such as a name or a date. Content Field types are mapped to Repository Datatypes in the storage layer, and can be displayed and accessed through Field Controls in the UI layer.
